The History of Craps

The history of Craps, like the history of many other games is uncertain. Some people believe that it dates back as so far as Roman Soldiers who played a variation of the game with pig knucklebones. However it is known for certain that the game of Craps was very similar to a game called Hazard. Hazard was developed in the 18th century and played by members of the European aristocracy. It arrived in America through the French Louisiana colony of Arcadia. By the early nineteenth century a man named Bernard de Mandeville simplified the game and it was also renamed as Craps. There were no problems in the game with regards to how quickly it spread in popularity however there was a massive flaw in his version due to the use of fixed dice. It was a man named John H Winn who rectified this problem and in turn developed Craps as we know it today. Winn fixed this problem by introducing the option for players to bet 'right' or 'wrong' including a space for 'Don't Pass' bets. These adjustments eliminated the problem of fixed dice making it possible for players to bet for or against the person rolling the dye. With the revolution of the internet we are now able to play Craps with a computer eliminting the house to leave the house altogether!
